Overview. Five (W123, R017) or six (W126) of these valves sit behind the pushbutton control unit and do the work of switching vacuum to the flap actuators. Over time they clog, leak or fail from ingesting dust and moisture. Also, it is common for the electrical coils short out, leading to permanent component failure.

Installation

How many do I need?

The W123 and R107 have 5; the W126 has 6. Replace the failed ones, or all of them during a full rebuild.

It looks different from my original. Will it fit?

Yes, it fits the original vacuum lines and connector.

How do I do an electical test in place?

While a full electrical test is best done with the part removed and with power applied to the two pins, a simple continuity test in-situ can reveal a bad coil. It is not uncommon to find one or several have fried coils that no longer pass a continuity test.
