Overview. The W116 300SD was fitted with the Delco R4 A/C compressor, which has reliability problems. This bolt-on kit converts your 300SD to a modern Sanden SD7H15 compressor with no cutting, welding, or permanent changes to the vehicle. Starting in 2010, we were the first company to offer a Sanden upgrade kit for the W116 300SD.

  • Precision steel brackets with yellow zinc finish, made in the USA
  • Goodyear Galaxy or Parker Futura full-barrier hose

Product FAQs

Are ready-to-install hoses available?

No. The W116 kit ships with uncrimped hose and fittings only, so you'll need to cut and crimp your own hoses. The kit is like this because some owners like to eliminate the flare-style connections at the condenser input and elsewhere and replace them with o-ring type, whereas some owners prefer to keep the flare connections. If you're keeping the flare fittings, we recommend using Flare Seal Discs and Nylog Lubricant / Sealant. https://www.flareseal.com/ https://www.refrigtech.com/nylog-blue/

Can I get o-ring fittings at the evaporator and condenser?

Yes, on request. The standard kit keeps the original flare style there. You still need to take care of the crimping.

Can I use R-12?

Yes. Drain the PAG oil from the new compressor and refill with Double End Capped PAG 100, which is 100% R-12 compatible. We no longer recommend mineral oil as it is simply outmoded relative to Double End Capped PAG. Also, if you are planning to use hydrocarbon refrigerants, never use mineral oil as hydrocarbon refrigerants can reduce the viscosity of mineral oil.

What else should I replace?

A new drier and TXV are required for the compressor warranty. Our W116/R107 TXV fits this car.
